In a dramatic turn of events reminiscent of a Bollywood movie, the primary suspect in the murder of Rashid, a water supplier, was apprehended by the police after a fierce gun battle near Khajuri Khas Signature Bridge in northeast Delhi. The suspect, identified as Haroon and believed to be a key figure in the Haroon gang, engaged in a shootout with the police, exchanging a total of 14 rounds during the operation.
Acting on intelligence regarding Haroon’s presence in the area, law enforcement set up a trap near Signature Bridge. When the police tried to intercept him and demanded his surrender, the suspect reportedly opened fire on the officers. In response, the police fired back in self-defense, resulting in a confrontation where one bullet hit a policeman’s bulletproof vest, averting a potentially grave injury.
Haroon sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during the exchange and was subdued by the authorities. He was subsequently taken into custody and received medical attention. Following the arrest, forensic experts and crime scene investigators were deployed to gather evidence and analyze the situation.
Rashid was fatally shot inside his shop by three armed assailants in Dayalpur. According to Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) HGS Dhaliwal, Rashid had alleged ties to the criminal network of gangster Naseem Durrani, indicating a possible motive related to the rivalry between the Durrani and Haroon gangs. Earlier in the investigation, two suspects linked to the murder were detained by the Dayalpur Police through technical surveillance, while two juveniles associated with the Anwar Thakur-Haroon gang were apprehended by the Crime Branch. A specialized team, led by Inspectors Man Singh and Sunder Gautam, was assembled to pursue the perpetrators.
