In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, police conducted a significant anti-narcotics operation resulting in the confiscation of approximately six quintals of ganja and the arrest of a drug smuggling gang. The seized contraband is valued at around Rs 10 crore in the illegal market. The operation, carried out jointly by the Crime Branch and the West Zone Police, involved intercepting a truck suspected of transporting the narcotic substance.
The consignment was targeted for distribution in Kanpur and nearby districts, according to officials. Described as a major success in the fight against narcotics trafficking, the operation led to the recovery of the entire consignment and the apprehension of individuals associated with the smuggling network. Investigators are now focusing on tracing the origin of the seized ganja and identifying other potential links to the trafficking network.
This recent seizure follows a series of successful anti-drug operations in Uttar Pradesh, including the dismantling of a major ganja trafficking network in Deoria district. In a related development, law enforcement agencies destroyed approximately 1,300 kilograms of ganja valued at Rs 6.50 crore as part of the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign “Operation Dahan.” The initiative aims to target drug networks and ensure the lawful destruction of seized illegal substances across the state.
