In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) confiscated 2.128 kg of cocaine, valued at Rs 10.65 crore in the black market, from a female passenger arriving from Freetown via Nairobi at Mumbai airport. Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers intercepted the passenger on her arrival at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on July 5.
Upon screening the passenger’s baggage through an X-ray machine, officials discovered concealed items in the metallic handles of her trolley bags. Subsequent inspection led to the recovery of 17 cylindrical packets hidden in the metallic handles, containing a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine using a field test kit, as confirmed by the DRI.
A total of 2128 grams of cocaine, with a market value of Rs 10.65 crore, was seized from the passenger’s luggage. Following interrogation, the passenger was taken into custody. The confiscated contraband was seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. In a previous operation, the DRI had seized 2 kg of cocaine in Surat and apprehended an individual last month.
