Coming after the government’s announcement of a Bill to address exam malpractices, the Union Ministry of Education is set to announce significant reforms in the National Testing Agency (NTA). Approximately 47 NTA officials are anticipated to be removed as part of a structural overhaul to combat paper leaks. The revamp of NTA is a response to the recent student protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
The impending announcement is likely to focus on enhancing NTA’s operations to prevent paper leaks and improve examination processes. The agency has faced scrutiny due to allegations of NEET paper leaks and calls for examination system improvements. Changes such as revising outsourcing methods to ensure a secure system are expected to be implemented to strengthen NTA, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent directives.
A team of experts will propose these changes to transform NTA into a more effective organization. NTA, responsible for conducting various national-level exams like JEE, NEET, and CUET, is undergoing restructuring, which is projected to conclude within the next month. The Union Cabinet has approved a Bill to establish fast-track courts and impose stricter penalties for paper leaks and exam fraud, with the legislation set to be introduced in Parliament soon.
