Newly-promoted Malaga has signed midfielder Carlos Dotor on loan from Celta Vigo for a second consecutive season as part of their preparations for returning to La Liga. Dotor, who played a key role in Malaga’s promotion last season, will join the team for pre-season training immediately. The 25-year-old made 40 appearances for Malaga last season, contributing with one goal and four assists, and his performance was crucial in their historic promotion.
Argentine-born winger Juan Cruz has also returned to Malaga, further strengthening the team for the upcoming La Liga season. Cruz, who can play on either wing, joined on an initial one-season loan deal with an option for a permanent move. He impressed during Leganes’ La Liga campaign but fell out of favor due to a disagreement with the club as they struggled in the second division last season.
In addition to Dotor and Cruz, Malaga recently welcomed center-back Fernando Calero from Espanyol as their summer signing. The club has also extended the contracts of coach Juanfran Funes and attacking midfielder Dani Lorenzo. Funes, who took over in November 2025, led Malaga to a remarkable turnaround, securing their return to La Liga after a successful season in the second division.
