Formula 1 and the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) have confirmed that Malaysia will host the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit from October 2 to 4, 2026. This marks the return of the iconic venue to the Formula 1 calendar, situated between the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grands Prix. The 2026 calendar will remain unchanged apart from this addition, pending final agreements and approval by the FIA World Motor Sport Council.

The event will be officially named the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, as per an agreement between Formula 1, the FIA, and the governments of Bahrain and Malaysia. This agreement ensures that the Bahrain Grand Prix remains on the 2026 calendar despite regional challenges that could have led to its cancellation. Bahrain’s commitment to Formula 1 since 2004 and Malaysia’s support played key roles in making this event possible.

Sepang, known for its high-speed layout, tropical weather, and enthusiastic fan base, last hosted a Formula 1 race in 2017. The decision to return to this demanding circuit has been welcomed by Bahrain Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, highlighting Bahrain’s dedication to Formula 1 and the strong ties between Bahrain and Malaysia.

Bahrain’s Crown Prince expressed pride in supporting Formula 1 amid regional challenges, emphasizing Bahrain’s role as a stable host for the sport. Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim also expressed honor in supporting Bahrain, Formula 1, and the FIA by hosting the race at Sepang. This collaboration signifies the enduring friendship and partnership between Malaysia and Bahrain, with Malaysia eagerly anticipating the return of Formula 1 teams and fans.
