Strategic positions controlled by armed terrorist groups in Anefis, located in Mali’s northern Kidal region, were eliminated by the Malian army before the arrival of a significant logistics convoy from Gao. The army, as per the General Staff of the Malian Armed Forces, conducted joint operations in various operational areas.
The army’s efforts included clearing the strategic positions held by terrorists in Anefis 48 hours prior to the convoy’s arrival, thereby creating favorable conditions for the advancement of its forces, as reported by Xinhua news agency. Despite facing clashes and ambushes by armed terrorist groups linked to organizations like the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) and the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA), the logistics convoy from Gao successfully reached Anefis on Thursday night with the assistance of air and ground operations.
In the past 24 hours, the army conducted 15 airstrikes in Anefis, Tabrichat in the Gao region, and Koulebala in the Sévaré area. This resulted in the destruction of 12 combat vehicles and the neutralization of nearly 100 terrorists. The army remains resolute in its commitment to ongoing operations against armed terrorist groups throughout the country, as reiterated by the general staff.
Following attacks on July 4 targeting various locations in Mali, including Aguelhok, Anefis, Gao, Sevare, and Kenioroba, the Malian army successfully repelled the assaults. Mali has been grappling with a precarious security situation for years, marked by frequent attacks by armed groups, especially in the northern and central regions. In a separate incident in April, Mali’s Defence Minister Sadio Camara was killed in an attack by armed terrorist groups at his residence near Bamako.
