Claiming that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on the decline, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for using government resources for political purposes. Speaking at an election rally in Hooghly district’s Tarakeswar, Banerjee alleged that PM Modi engaged in an unlawful campaign for the BJP during his address on the women’s quota bill. She expressed disapproval of this action and announced plans to lodge a complaint with the Election Commission, citing a violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
During a national address, Prime Minister Modi cautioned the Congress and its allies about potential repercussions from Indian women for the sin of female foeticide. Banerjee, in response, accused PM Modi of conducting an illicit campaign for his party and questioned the delay in implementing the Women’s Reservation Bill, which was passed in September 2023. She criticized the BJP-led Union government for combining the Delimitation Bill with the women’s quota legislation in the Lok Sabha, despite lacking sufficient support for its passage.
Banerjee emphasized that the BJP’s attempt to push the bill in the Lok Sabha without adequate backing resulted in a defeat, signaling the party’s decline. She asserted that the downfall of the BJP has commenced and predicted its imminent demise. The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of development under the state government’s leadership while also launching verbal attacks on the Centre for its actions.
Addressing the parliamentary vote, Banerjee mentioned the absence of several Trinamool Congress MPs and Shiv Sena members, suggesting that if all had participated, the BJP would have faced a significant defeat in numbers.
