West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed concerns on Friday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) might split the state through a reorganization of Assembly constituencies if they win the upcoming elections. She emphasized the need to defeat the BJP to prevent this division, citing plans to create a separate state using areas from Bihar and West Bengal.
During a campaign rally in South Dinajpur district, Banerjee urged the public to stay alert against potential efforts by the BJP to obstruct genuine voters from reaching polling booths. She highlighted the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) for the state’s two-phase Assembly election later this month.
Banerjee commended the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal Police for apprehending Mofakkarul Islam, the individual behind the harassment of judicial adjudication officers in Malda district. She revealed that Islam was arrested by the CID before the National Investigation Agency (NIA) team arrived in West Bengal, preventing his escape plans through Bagdogra Airport.
Accusing the BJP of attempting to sway voters with monetary incentives through an external agency, Banerjee cautioned the public against sharing their bank account details. At a separate rally in Raiganj, she claimed to possess information about agencies hired by the BJP to bring substantial cash into West Bengal for distribution, promising to disclose these details in due course.
