A man in Balipatna, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, was reportedly beaten to death by his friend following a financial disagreement. The victim, identified as Rakesh Kumar Das, a 43-year-old driver from Athantar village, owed Rs 25,000 to his friend Jakir Shah of Bengabati village.

Shah and Das, said to be close friends, had a heated argument when Shah demanded repayment of the borrowed money. Despite repeated requests, Das allegedly delayed repayment, leading to the fatal confrontation. Shah attacked Das with an iron rod in Bengabati village, causing severe head injuries.

Local residents rushed Das to Capital Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The accused, Shah, was apprehended by the police and is currently in custody at Balipatna police station. He is set to appear in court on Saturday, with Das’s post-mortem examination scheduled for the same day.
