Police in Lahore, Pakistan, detained a man following a shooting near Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar’s vehicle. The episode occurred in Lahore’s Defence A area while Tarar was with his family. The suspect, identified as Osama, was apprehended promptly, with authorities recovering the firearm and impounding the involved vehicle. An investigation is ongoing, as per Pakistani daily ‘The Nation.’
Police mentioned that the initial probe suggests the incident was likely a case of celebratory gunfire rather than a targeted assault. Tarar recounted that a car overtook his vehicle, with an occupant brandishing a gun and firing shots into the air. His team trailed the car, noted its license plate, and alerted the police, as reported by The Nation.
Tarar clarified that he was not the intended victim, emphasizing that the assailant was unaware of his presence as a federal minister in the car. Fortunately, neither he nor his family members sustained any injuries. Meanwhile, a tragic incident on June 10 involved the accidental shooting of a nine-year-old girl and injuries to her father and brother by the police in Chakwal, as per Dawn’s report.
