A man in Karnataka’s Belagavi district was arrested for allegedly poisoning his 15-day-old infant daughter, reportedly due to her gender. The accused, Bhimaraya Chippade, was apprehended by Kakati police following the incident on March 17 in Ukkad village of Belagavi taluk.
The baby’s mother, Sheela, filed a complaint at Kakati Police station after the infant’s suspicious death, leading to concerns among family members who suspected the father’s involvement. Chippade, a daily wage laborer, had a strong preference for a male child and was upset after the birth of a girl.
Chippade, who had visited his wife and daughter and left shortly before the infant’s sudden death, is believed to have used a pesticide to harm his daughter. The baby was rushed to Belagavi BIMS Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem examination results to confirm the cause of death.
Senior police officials, including DCP Narayan Bharamani, Belagavi Rural ACP, and Kakati CPI, visited the scene and initiated an investigation into the tragic incident.
