The Infocity Police in Bhubaneswar apprehended a 51-year-old man from West Bengal for allegedly scamming individuals of approximately Rs 3 crore. The accused, Sachidananda Bhoi, hailing from Odisha’s Bargarh district, pretended to be the son of a former Lok Sabha MP and the CEO of a private firm.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Zone-VI, Manas Ranjan Pradhan, disclosed that Bhoi deceived numerous individuals by claiming to be the offspring of ex-MP Krupasindhu Bhoi. The fraudster established an office for an auto-tech company, Go Speedy Go (HIFERK Technologies Pvt Ltd), in Bhubaneswar, where he recruited employees and enticed people to invest in his business.
Bhoi, masquerading as the CEO and director of the auto-tech company, lured individuals into taking up franchises with promises of extensive support and profits. He also failed to pay salaries to employees and deliver the pledged services to franchise holders, resulting in a total alleged fraud amounting to over Rs 3 crore.
The police investigation led to Bhoi’s arrest near the India-Nepal border in West Bengal. He was subsequently presented before a local court in Siliguri and brought back to Odisha for further legal proceedings. The Commissionerate police intend to request the court for permission to interrogate the accused in custody to delve deeper into the case.
