The Commissionerate Police arrested Ashish Reddy, a 45-year-old man from Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi, for pretending to be an officer of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and influencing a woman to file a false complaint. Reddy, who knew the complainant, misrepresented himself as an NIA official during the investigation of a case reported at Kharavel Nagar police station.
The woman had accused unknown individuals of sexually assaulting her near Puri-Konark Road in April. However, it was discovered that Reddy, posing as an NIA officer, had manipulated the investigation process by pressuring officials and actively participating in drafting the complaint. Verification with the NIA revealed that Reddy had no affiliation with the agency and had forged his credentials.
Further inquiry disclosed that the woman’s abduction and assault claims were untrue and were concocted under Reddy’s influence due to a personal disagreement with a friend. Reddy, under the guise of assistance, established contact with the woman and later exploited her sexually. He fabricated a false FIR, which was initially lodged at Infocity Police Station and later transferred to Kharavel Nagar police station.
Police confiscated a counterfeit NIA identity card, a T-shirt with the NIA logo, a vehicle, mobile phones, weapons, and other items from Reddy. He faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. Authorities are conducting further investigations to verify his background and potential involvement in other incidents.
