Mumbai Customs apprehended a 28-year-old man for smuggling hydroponic weed valued at Rs 2.05 crore through Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). The suspect, A.D. Rajani from Jamnagar, Gujarat, was flagged upon his arrival from Bangkok. Officials discovered 5,869 grams of hydroponic weed hidden in his luggage, sparking an ongoing investigation.
The recent seizure is part of a series of drug smuggling crackdowns at Indian airports. In a separate incident at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in New Delhi, customs officials seized hydroponic weed worth approximately Rs 4.80 crore from a passenger arriving from Bangkok. Similarly, earlier in June, a 28-year-old woman was arrested at Mumbai airport for attempting to smuggle over 11 kg of hydroponic weed worth Rs 11.82 crore.
Hydroponic weed, a potent form of cannabis grown using water-based nutrients, is known for its high psychoactive compounds. Its superior quality commands a premium in the illicit drug market, making it a target for smugglers.
