A man in Garhwa district, Jharkhand, was apprehended for allegedly killing his 17-year-old daughter after she declined an arranged marriage. The accused, identified as Nirmal Singh, fled after the incident but was captured by the police ten days later.
Garhwa Sub-Divisional Police Officer Satyendra Narayan Singh disclosed that authorities were alerted to a suspicious odor emanating from Singh’s residence in Parti Kushwani village on May 19. Upon investigation, the girl’s body, named Aakriti Kumari, was discovered inside a room.
Following the discovery, a case was filed at Ketar police station based on the victim’s brother’s testimony, leading to a thorough inquiry. A specialized team, under the SDPO’s guidance, was assembled to locate the suspect, who had absconded to Rajasthan post the crime and was intercepted on his way back to Garhwa for surrender.
The accused, during questioning, admitted to the crime, explaining that he strangled his daughter as she refused to move to Rajasthan for her marriage. Subsequently, he locked the house and fled the scene.
