The suspect, reportedly behind on rent payments, was found a few hundred meters away from the scene. During the altercation, a fire broke out in the room, believed to have been caused by the man igniting a gas cylinder for a portable stove. In a separate incident on December 26, 2025, 15 people were injured in a stabbing spree at a factory in Shizuoka Prefecture, with Masaki Oyama (38) arrested for attempted murder.
In another case on December 15, 2025, a 30-year-old man named Naoya Yamaguchi was arrested in Fukuoka for involvement in stabbings that caused non-life-threatening injuries. The attacks occurred at a stadium and an amusement facility where the Japanese female idol group HKT48 performs. Yamaguchi, accused of attempted murder, confessed to the crime, with one victim stabbed in the chest and another sustaining a back injury.
