A man was assaulted by passengers at Gwalior Railway Station, leading the Government Railway Police (GRP) to launch a departmental inquiry and transfer a Sub-Inspector due to alleged negligence. The incident occurred on June 29 at 4 p.m. on Platform No. 2 after a woman accused the man of trying to snatch her gold earring.
Passengers apprehended the man and reportedly assaulted him before security personnel intervened. The man, during the assault, tried to shield himself by picking up a child accompanying him. The video of the incident went viral on social media, highlighting both the mob violence and the subsequent police handling.
Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel rescued the man and handed him over to the GRP for further action. Following the viral video, a preliminary inquiry was ordered by the Railway Police Headquarters. GRP Sub-Inspector Chetan Korolia was reassigned pending the completion of the departmental probe.
Railway Superintendent of Police Rajesh Singh stated that a departmental inquiry has been initiated, and individuals involved in the assault will be identified based on the video. The incident has sparked concerns about the handling of theft cases by railway police and the issue of mob justice in public spaces.
