A man sustained critical injuries in a shootout in Beniapukur, Kolkata, due to a personal dispute that escalated into gunfire. The incident involved the firing of about five to six rounds of bullets at the victim in the Tiljala area of Beniapukur.
The wounded individual was promptly taken to the trauma care unit at SSKM Hospital in a serious condition. Reports from the police indicated that a confrontation between two individuals, Mohammad Salman and Mohammad Niaz, led to the violent altercation.
Following an argument on Monday night, Salman allegedly threatened Niaz over certain matters. Despite initial intervention by locals to resolve the issue, Salman later reportedly shot at Niaz with 5-6 rounds around 1 a.m. Niaz sustained three gunshot wounds in his legs and was admitted to the trauma care unit at SSKM Hospital for treatment.
Residents identified the alleged perpetrator, Salman, as a known troublemaker in the area with a history of complaints against him. The Beniapukur police station was promptly notified of the incident, and an investigation into the matter has been initiated.
According to local witnesses, Salman has a criminal background with charges including theft, robbery, and extortion. The motive behind the altercation with Niaz remains unclear, prompting the police to launch a search for Salman to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
