In a tragic incident in Bhubaneswar, a man murdered his 26-year-old wife due to alleged marital issues before trying to end his own life by consuming poison. The victim, Monika Jena, hailed from Baunsapada village in Nayagarh district and had been married to Deepak Kumar Jena since 2019. The couple, who had a six-year-old child, had been living separately for two years following frequent disputes that led to police cases for domestic violence.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Biswaranjan Senapati revealed that the couple’s conflicts escalated over time, with Deepak working outside Odisha while Monika resided in Bhubaneswar with her family. Recently, Deepak had taken their son away, prompting Monika to relocate with her mother and sister to a new place in an attempt to evade him. Despite their efforts to remain hidden, Deepak managed to locate them in Chakeisiani and attacked Monika when she was alone at home.
Tragically, Deepak strangled Monika with a towel and inflicted self-harm by slashing his wrist after the brutal attack. Monika’s family discovered her lifeless body and alerted the authorities, leading to Deepak’s swift arrest after he attempted to flee. Currently receiving medical treatment after consuming poison, Deepak will face legal consequences once discharged from the hospital.
