A man, identified as Ubaidullah alias F. Hameed alias Ubaithullah Khan Faizal, has been sentenced to four years in prison and fined Rs 20,000 by a Special CBI Court for possessing multiple passports. The case, investigated by the CBI, was heard by the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Egmore, Chennai. Ubaidullah was convicted for forgery and obtaining multiple passports using fictitious names and forged documents.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) initiated the case on December 31, 2018, alleging that Ubaidullah fraudulently acquired several passports by impersonating himself and submitting fake documents. It was revealed that he used these fake passports to travel abroad and deceive the Customs Department. Upon attempting to board a flight to Singapore, he was caught at Chennai International Airport with illegal possession of foreign currencies amounting to Rs 36.74 lakh without proper authorization.
Furthermore, the CBI stated that Ubaidullah provided false information to obtain passports from the authorities. Following the investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Ubaidullah on March 13, 2020. In a separate incident, the CBI recently apprehended a long-absconding Proclaimed Offender, Sarit Vij alias Sarat Kumar Vij, in connection with a Rs 58 lakh fraud involving the Customs Department. A reward of Rs 10,000 was offered for information leading to his arrest.
