A man in Karnataka’s Hassan city has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape and murder of his girlfriend in a case dating back to 2018. The 3rd Additional Sessions Court in Hassan found the accused, Praveen, guilty of sexually assaulting and killing his girlfriend, who had visited him to celebrate his birthday.
The incident occurred on April 22, 2018, near Kalkere village in Hassan taluk. Praveen, a resident of Hadlagere, deceived the victim by feigning love for her. Upon her birthday visit, he allegedly raped and then strangled her to death. The Hassan rural police initiated a case, conducted an investigation, and presented a charge sheet to the court following the incident.
After a thorough trial, the court convicted Praveen. Additionally, the court sentenced the second accused, Thammanna, to two years of rigorous imprisonment for tampering with evidence. In a separate case from August 2025, the 4th Additional District and Sessions Court in Bhadravathi handed down sentences for the 2016 murder of a schoolteacher in Bhadravathi. The convicted individuals were Lakshmi, Krishnamurthy alias Kitti, and Shivaraju alias Shivu, all residents of NTB Road, Jannapura, Bhadravathi.
According to Bhadravathi police, Lakshmi, a government school teacher, murdered her husband, Imtiyaz Ahmed, in July 2016 by striking him with an iron rod. Krishnamurthy and Shivraju aided her in disposing of the body in a canal.
