Manchester City secured a crucial 3-0 victory over Brentford at the Etihad Stadium, narrowing the gap to just two points behind league leaders Arsenal. Following a thrilling 3-3 draw with Everton, Pep Guardiola’s team delivered a dominant performance in the second half, putting pressure on Arsenal ahead of their upcoming match against West Ham United.
Despite City’s overall control of the game, they had to work hard for the opening goal. Jeremy Doku impressed early on, almost finding the net within two minutes and later providing an assist that Erling Haaland narrowly missed. Haaland continued to threaten in the first half, with a couple of close attempts saved by Brentford’s defense.
The deadlock was broken in the 60th minute when Doku cut inside from the wing and scored a fantastic goal into the far corner, reminiscent of his late equalizer against Everton. City’s lead was doubled with 15 minutes remaining as Haaland scored from close range, and Omar Marmoush sealed the win with a late third goal.
Despite Brentford posing occasional challenges, City’s defense remained resilient. Gianluigi Donnarumma made crucial saves, including stopping a dangerous free-kick from Mathias Jensen and denying Igor Thiago at close range. City’s clean sheet and solid defensive display ensured the victory, keeping Guardiola’s side in contention for the league title, while Brentford sits in eighth place in the standings.
