Karnataka’s Mangaluru City Police have apprehended two human trafficking agents and facilitated the arrest of a key figure in Kolkata linked to a racket smuggling illegal Bangladeshi nationals into India for employment in coastal Karnataka. The breakthrough follows the detention of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from construction sites in Kuntikana and Kodial during a recent police operation. Three individuals from West Bengal, Moidin Islam, Rasul Islam, and Dilwar Hussain, are accused of running an interstate human trafficking network that brought Bangladeshi nationals into India and placed them in the workforce by disguising them as migrant laborers from northern states.
Police arrested Moidin Islam and Dilwar Hussain in targeted operations, leading to the cooperation with Kolkata Police to locate the third suspect, Rasul Islam. Acting on this information, Kolkata Police apprehended Rasul Islam in Kolkata through a joint effort. A special team from Mangaluru City Police is heading to Kolkata to secure his custody for further investigation in Mangaluru. The accused allegedly recruited laborers for construction and industrial sectors in coastal Karnataka, using the movement of migrant workers to hide undocumented Bangladeshi nationals.
Authorities believe the investigation may uncover details about the network’s operations, including the use of forged identity documents, infiltration routes, and potential involvement of local facilitators aiding illegal immigrants in securing jobs and avoiding detection. The probe is ongoing, with the possibility of more arrests as the trafficking network is further exposed.
Following an intensified crackdown on illegal immigrants, Mangaluru city police recently detained 11 more Bangladeshi nationals working at construction sites. This action comes after the Surathkal police intercepted eight illegal immigrants on July 9. Acting on specific intelligence, the Urwa police raided a construction site at Kuntikana, confirming three laborers were residing illegally in the country. Simultaneously, another police team found eight undocumented Bangladeshi nationals at a construction site in Kodial. City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy mentioned that a detailed report will be sent to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) for formal detention and deportation orders.
