Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh highlighted the importance of dialogue in resolving issues as protests and shutdowns disrupted parts of the state. At the inauguration of a Block Development Office in Thoubal district, Singh aimed to enhance grassroots governance and service delivery. Despite a warm welcome in Wangjing-Tentha, he expressed surprise at facing opposition in the valley region.
Singh stressed the significance of discussions in resolving differences, noting that collaboration among stakeholders leads to meaningful solutions. Addressing a tragic incident in Bishnupur district, where two children were killed, he assured that the government is engaging with the victims’ Joint Action Committee. The Chief Minister also mentioned considering providing government jobs to the bereaved parents as a humanitarian gesture.
Amid a total shutdown in Imphal valley by women’s groups and Civil Society Organisations, Singh criticized the disruption caused by such activities. He pledged to expedite the construction of a 3.5-km approach road in Wangjing. In Naga-inhabited areas, a separate shutdown was observed in protest against the killing of two civilians, with normal life significantly impacted.
