Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh announced the launch of the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) to enhance rural livelihoods and job opportunities. The new scheme, effective nationwide from July 1, offers job card holders 125 days of guaranteed employment, up from the previous 100 days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). Additionally, the daily wage has been increased from Rs 283 to Rs 300 under this initiative.
Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen emphasized the importance of rural development, stating that the VB-G RAM G scheme should serve as a platform for integrating various agricultural and developmental initiatives. She highlighted the significance of creating sustainable livelihoods and durable assets for rural communities through convergence efforts. The program aims to strengthen rural livelihoods and promote climate-resilient practices.
MLA Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh praised the Chief Minister’s peace initiatives, particularly his efforts to reach previously inaccessible areas. Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Commissioner Sumant Singh explained that the VB-G RAM G Act, 2025, passed by Parliament, involves the categorization of Gram Panchayats into four groups based on their development plans. The entire program will be executed through the PM Gati Shakti geospatial portal for effective implementation and monitoring.
Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan led the nationwide launch of the VB-G RAM G scheme from Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. Chief Minister Singh and other dignitaries participated in a tree-planting initiative to promote environmental conservation during the event. The program was attended by State Arts and Culture and Tourism Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh, along with several MLAs and senior government officials.
