Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh emphasized the need for collective action to combat drug abuse, especially among the youth. On the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Singh flagged off a 10-km Mega Awareness Run in Imphal. He commended the enthusiastic participation of the youth and led a pledge against drug abuse with senior dignitaries present.
Singh reiterated the government’s commitment to fighting narcotics, stating, “Yes to Life, No to Drugs.” The Manipur Director General of Police, Mukesh Singh, highlighted the importance of societal involvement in battling drug abuse. The police chief himself participated in the awareness run, emphasizing the police department’s dedication to the anti-drug campaign.
The event, organized by the Manipur Police Department, saw around 1,300 participants, including women, engaging in the run. Manipur, along with Mizoram, faces challenges as a major drug trafficking corridor in Northeast India due to its porous border with Myanmar. The Chief Minister stressed the need for enhanced border management and coordination to curb drug trafficking effectively.
