Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla engaged with five students from relief camps who have been chosen for free education at a renowned educational institution in Uttarakhand. These students, sponsored for education up to Class 10 by the Information Technology Institute for the Tribes of India in partnership with Doon Sanskriti School, Dehradun, will have their educational expenses, boarding, lodging, uniforms, and other essential needs covered. The Assam Rifles will bear their travel expenses from Imphal to Dehradun.
The selected students, originating from Moreh and Churachandpur, tribal-inhabited districts, and currently housed in relief camps in Imphal, were picked under the supervision of the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) from children displaced by the ethnic violence in Manipur in May 2023. Governor Bhalla, during the interaction at Raj Bhavan, described this opportunity as a significant stride towards a brighter future for the students. He urged them to pursue their studies with dedication, commitment, and to develop their talents to the fullest.
Former Union Home Secretary Bhalla extended his best wishes to the students for their academic journey and future pursuits. He commended the Assam Rifles for their support in nurturing students among the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by the violence, enabling them to realize their potential through educational opportunities. Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) Major General Gaurav Sharma and Commander, 9 Sector Assam Rifles, Brigadier Pratyush Kumar, were present at the event along with other officials.
