Manipur Governor Stresses Importance of Scientific Research at Manipur Science Congress

Manipur’s Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, highlighted the significance of scientific research in Manipur due to its rich biodiversity and unique ecological conditions. He emphasized the need for focused studies in areas like climate change, biotechnology, sustainable agriculture, and environmental sciences to advance scientific knowledge and support the state’s sustainable development and environmental conservation efforts.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Manipur Science Congress 2025, Bhalla underlined that science is crucial for addressing global challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, and environmental stress. He mentioned India’s achievements in space science and digital infrastructure, attributing these successes to the government’s strong policy focus on enhancing science, technology, and innovation ecosystems.
Bhalla called for promoting problem-oriented research relevant to local realities, especially in the northeastern region, and urged scientists to guide society in the responsible use, conservation, and regeneration of resources. He also recognized the Manipur Science Congress as a key platform for collaboration, quality research, and dissemination of findings through national and international publications.
Organized by Manipur University in partnership with the Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC), the Manipur Science Congress 2025 revolves around the theme ‘Science, Innovation, and Climate Change.’ It serves as a significant forum for scientists, researchers, academicians, and students to discuss contemporary scientific issues and foster innovation-driven solutions, particularly in the context of climate change.
The inaugural event was attended by Manipur University Vice Chancellor, Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, and Science & Technology Secretary and MASTEC Member Secretary, Kengoo Zuringla.
