Manipur Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh criticized the recent “Save Manipur” protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, alleging it aimed to provoke the state’s youth. Singh, speaking at a press conference in Imphal, claimed that the protest was orchestrated by “foreign hands” to mislead Manipuri youths. He emphasized that the people of Manipur, not those at Jantar Mantar, would be the true saviors of the state.
Singh further stated that the demonstrations in New Delhi, including those by Rahul Gandhi, were designed to disrupt the Monsoon Session of Parliament. He pointed out the involvement of political workers from various opposition parties behind the scenes, despite students appearing to lead the protests. The Home Minister urged the youth to trust Prime Minister Narendra Modi and emphasized the government’s dedication to safeguarding their interests.
Accusing certain groups of being dissatisfied with changes to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) rules, Singh alleged that the protest in New Delhi was externally funded by forces opposed to India’s progress. He questioned the source of logistical support at the protest venue and criticized opposition parties for tarnishing the country’s reputation. Singh stressed that issues related to Manipur should be addressed through parliamentary debates and resolutions.
