The Manipur Police intercepted four vehicles along the India-Myanmar border for illegally transporting 25 containers of petrol and diesel. The drivers were arrested for suspected smuggling activities into Myanmar. The fuel-laden vehicles were heading towards Moreh in Tengnoupal district, which shares an unfenced border with Myanmar.
Security forces in Manipur have been actively cracking down on illegal activities. In a separate operation, 23 bunkers illegally constructed across hill ranges in Ukhrul district were destroyed. These bunkers were built by militant outfits and armed cadres, contributing to security concerns in the region.
The porous India-Myanmar border serves as a key transit point for various illicit activities, including drug trafficking and contraband smuggling. Manipur Police have intensified search operations and area domination exercises in multiple districts to curb illegal movements. Additionally, security measures, such as setting up checkpoints and providing escorts to vehicles, are being implemented to ensure safe transportation.
