Three-time National Award-winning actor Manoj Bajpayee explained why the younger generation should watch his upcoming film ‘Governor’. During the film’s promotions, he highlighted the importance of understanding the financial decisions leading up to the New Economic Policy. ‘Governor’ is reportedly inspired by S. Venkitaramanan, the former RBI Governor during India’s 1991 economic crisis.
Manoj emphasized the historical context of the film, mentioning the absence of modern amenities like soft drinks and malls in the past. He stressed the educational value for Gen Z, citing milestones like the first telecast of a cricket match in 1992. The actor showcased his thorough preparation for the role, including a glossary of macro-economics and flowcharts for an interview.
In his interview, Manoj expressed the significance of accurately portraying economic concepts despite not being an expert in the field. He aimed to fill gaps in understanding basic economic principles, ensuring the validity and precision of his statements. ‘Governor’ is a Sunshine Pictures presentation, produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, and directed by Chinmay Mandlekar. The film, co-produced by Aashin A. Shah and written by a team of writers, is scheduled to release on June 12, 2026.
