Legendary actor Marlon Brando, known for his role in ‘The Godfather,’ once chose to decline the Best Actor Oscar award. At the 45th Academy Awards, Native American activist Sacheen Littlefeather appeared on his behalf. Littlefeather conveyed Brando’s rejection, citing Hollywood’s misrepresentation of Native Americans and the events at Wounded Knee.

She highlighted Brando’s refusal as a protest against the film industry’s treatment of American Indians. Littlefeather’s presence at the awards ceremony stirred a mix of reactions, with applause and boos. This incident marked a significant and controversial moment in Oscar history, showcasing the intersection of cinema and politics on a global platform.

The rejection of the Oscar award by Brando through Littlefeather overshadowed his win, emphasizing his strong political beliefs and principles.
