Maruti Suzuki India experienced a robust sales performance in January, marking a 12% year-on-year growth. The automaker sold 2.37 lakh vehicles during the month, as per official data. Customer interest surged significantly, with bookings rising by almost 25% compared to January 2025.
The company disclosed that it currently has approximately 1.75 lakh pending bookings, with 1.3 lakh falling under the 18% GST category, including popular models like the Alto, WagonR, and Celerio. Demand remains high across dealerships, leading to inventory levels dropping to just three days of stock.
Maruti Suzuki’s latest model, the Victoris, has emerged as a key driver of growth. Cumulative sales of the model have surpassed 50,000 units, with January sales alone reaching 15,240 units. Partho Banerjee, Executive Director for Sales and Marketing at Maruti Suzuki, mentioned that the Victoris is receiving 600 to 700 bookings daily, with the CNG variant facing extended waiting periods due to high demand.
The mid-size SUV segment, encompassing vehicles priced between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, continues to attract strong buyer interest. Notable models in this segment include the Tata Sierra, Maruti Victoris, Mahindra Thar, Hyundai Creta, and Kia Seltos, making it a highly competitive category in the Indian auto market. Maruti Suzuki highlighted a sharp increase in its market share in the mid-size SUV segment, rising from 12% to 19%. Additionally, average monthly volumes in this segment more than doubled to 21,155 units between October 2025 and January 2026, compared to the previous average of 10,329 units per month.
Looking forward, Maruti Suzuki revealed plans to introduce a new loyalty program for existing customers, initially covering the Grand Vitara, Victoris, and Invicto models. The loyalty upgrade program is expected to offer benefits such as direct price reductions, additional accessories, or a combination of both.
