A convoy of nearly 200 vehicles accompanying Madhya Pradesh Textbook Corporation Chairman Saubhagya Singh Thakur from Ujjain to Bhopal caused traffic congestion and drew criticism. Thakur, also the provincial president of Vidya Bharati’s Malwa region, led the convoy to assume office in Bhopal after his recent appointment.
Upon reaching Bhopal, Thakur visited the Madhya Pradesh BJP office and paid respects at statues on the premises. The convoy’s journey led to traffic jams along the Ujjain-Bhopal highway and within Bhopal, affecting commuters and causing delays at various locations.
The traffic disruptions inconvenienced travelers, with reports of long snarls during peak hours. The incident, occurring amid calls for fuel conservation by the Prime Minister and state government, sparked public outrage and discussions on social media.
Critics highlighted the contradiction between the convoy’s extravagance and appeals for fuel conservation by top leaders. The Madhya Pradesh Congress criticized the incident, questioning the necessity of a large procession for a political appointment.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had earlier reinforced the need for fuel conservation, urging citizens to use public transport or electric vehicles. The Madhya Pradesh Textbook Corporation, responsible for publishing and distributing textbooks, faced scrutiny over the convoy incident.
