A significant fire erupted in a slum cluster near Delhi’s Maulana Azad Medical College, destroying around 30 huts and a substantial amount of flammable materials like plywood and timber. Fortunately, due to the quick response of emergency services and the police, there were no casualties or injuries reported. The blaze was reported at Takia Kale Khan Gadda late Monday night, prompting immediate action from local authorities.
Upon arrival at the scene, the police discovered a large fire engulfing a stockpile of old furniture and combustible materials, endangering nearby huts and residents. Despite some reluctance from residents to evacuate, the police successfully moved 12 people to safety, preventing further spread of the fire. Multiple agencies, including the Fire Department and the District Disaster Management Authority, swiftly responded to the incident, deploying resources to contain the blaze.
Firefighters, along with a significant number of fire tenders and ambulances, worked for nearly three hours to bring the fire under control. The coordinated efforts of various emergency response teams were credited with averting a potential disaster, ensuring no loss of life or injuries despite the extensive damage caused by the fire. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire.
