Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati expressed concern over the increasing involvement of political figures in religious matters in Uttar Pradesh and other states. She highlighted that this interference is leading to tensions and conflicts within society. Mayawati emphasized the importance of maintaining a clear separation between politics and religion to safeguard social harmony.

The BSP leader specifically mentioned the controversy surrounding bathing ceremonies during the Magh Mela in Prayagraj as an example of the negative consequences of mixing religion and politics. She urged against using religion for narrow political gains and stressed the need to uphold the principles of the Constitution, which advocate for the independent operation of politics and religion.

Mayawati called on political leaders to fulfill their constitutional duties impartially, considering the welfare of all sections of society. She underscored the significance of resolving disputes like the one in Prayagraj through mutual consensus to prevent further escalation. Additionally, Mayawati extended greetings to the people of Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of Uttar Pradesh Day.
