The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) dismissed recent claims by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) that accused India of involvement in foreign interference. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that India upholds international norms and respects other nations’ sovereignty, denying any baseless allegations. The CSIS report highlighted aggressive foreign interference in Canadian politics, attributing it to countries like China, Russia, Iran, and Pakistan.
India reiterated its concerns about Canadian territory being used as a safe haven by extremist groups. The MEA reaffirmed India’s stance on addressing the presence of Khalistani separatist supporters in Canada, emphasizing the national security threats posed by such elements. The report also pointed out the misuse of democratic freedoms by these groups to promote extremism and fund violent activities.
Jaiswal urged Canadian authorities to take action against anti-India elements operating from Canada. He specifically mentioned the need to address issues like the glorification of violence, threats against diplomats, vandalism of religious sites, and attempts to incite secessionism through referendums. India has consistently raised these concerns with Canadian authorities to combat extremist activities effectively.
