Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Secretary (West) Sibi George met with Alexandre Zouev, Acting Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, to discuss India’s collaboration with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) in combating terrorism. Zouev praised India’s significant contributions to global counter-terrorism efforts and its support for UNOCT initiatives.
During the meeting, both parties explored avenues to strengthen cooperation and prepare for the upcoming Counter-Terrorism Week scheduled from June 26 to July 2, 2026. The UNOCT acknowledged India’s enduring role in global counter-terrorism endeavors, including its assistance to UNOCT and capacity-building programs.
Sibi George also engaged in discussions with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres regarding reforms within the international organization and advocating for the Global South’s interests. Emphasizing India’s unwavering commitment to multilateralism, George highlighted New Delhi’s efforts to promote the development of the Global South through initiatives like the India-UN Development Partnership Fund.
During his visit, Sibi George interacted with various UN officials and diplomats, underscoring India’s significant contributions to UN peacekeeping operations. His engagements included meetings with Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, and Khaled Khiari, Assistant Secretary-General in the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations, reaffirming India’s dedication to peacekeeping operations.
