Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Sibi George, met with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi in New Delhi. The discussions centered on bilateral and regional matters, including recent developments. Iran’s Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, and other officials also attended the meeting.
External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar and his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi have engaged in several phone conversations in recent weeks. These discussions covered various bilateral and geopolitical issues following the US-Israeli strikes on Tehran and other Iranian cities on February 28. Last month, EAM Jaishankar and Araghchi had a detailed conversation on the ongoing conflict in West Asia and bilateral relations.
During a phone call between Foreign Minister Araghchi of Iran and Minister of External Affairs Jaishankar of India, the two officials exchanged views on the ceasefire, bilateral relations, and regional and international issues. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on March 21, discussing the security situation in West Asia. PM Modi emphasized the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation and ensuring secure shipping lanes.
