Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma highlighted the government’s focus on people-centric development during a public event in Damas. Sangma criticized certain groups for spreading misinformation through social media platforms to discredit the government’s achievements. He stressed the government’s commitment to prioritizing the rights of indigenous people and resolving long-pending issues.
Sangma acknowledged the government’s responsiveness to public sentiment, particularly regarding the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council. He mentioned the amendment requiring a Scheduled Tribe certificate for contesting council elections, a move aimed at addressing past protests and excluding non-tribals from the electoral process. The Chief Minister also announced the formation of a Delimitation Committee for creating a separate electoral roll for the council.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s preference for dialogue over coercion in resolving conflicts. Sangma highlighted the state’s progress in infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and rural welfare programs. He discussed initiatives like the Family Identity Card system for efficient welfare delivery and flagship schemes supporting entrepreneurship, farmers, women, and youth for local economic growth.
