Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma emphasized the Northeast’s transition from instability to peace and economic growth during the North East India Infrastructure Summit and Exhibition (NEIINFRA) 2026 in Shillong. He mentioned that the region is aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for its development. Sangma pointed out Meghalaya’s significant economic growth, ranking third in GDP growth nationally over the past five years, supported by increased state budget and infrastructure investments.
Highlighting the importance of NEIINFRA 2026, Sangma stated that the summit aims to foster collaboration among governments, investors, and industry stakeholders to address developmental challenges in the Northeast. The event, attended by over 1,500 delegates from all eight Northeastern states, focused on infrastructure, connectivity, urban development, and investment promotion. Sangma also highlighted the region’s potential to become a key trade and economic hub with improved connectivity and strategic investments.
The Chief Minister reiterated Meghalaya’s commitment to utilizing infrastructure, tourism, and technology to attract investments and ensure inclusive growth across the state and the Northeast region. He emphasized that peace and stability have enhanced the investment climate, allowing for long-term economic planning and infrastructure development in the region.
