Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma commenced three significant road infrastructure projects in East Jaintia Hills district, totaling nearly Rs 412 crore, emphasizing the state government’s dedication to enhancing connectivity and fostering development.
The foundation stone-laying event took place at Latyrke Playground in the district, attended by local leaders, officials, and residents. The projects aim to bolster road networks, providing better access to remote areas, benefiting local communities, and stimulating economic activities.
One of the projects involves upgrading the Dkhiah–Sutnga–Saipung–Pala road up to Semmasi at an estimated cost of Rs 355 crore. Another project focuses on strengthening the Dkhiah–Sutnga–Saipung–Moulsei–Haflong road at a cost of Rs 10.3 crore. The third project aims to enhance the Sutnga–Khaddum road and improve connectivity to the Chympe Waterfalls tourist spot, with an investment of Rs 46.75 crore.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Sangma highlighted the importance of improved road infrastructure in enhancing transportation facilities, ensuring better access to healthcare, education, and essential services for residents in the region. He emphasized that good road connectivity fosters community unity, trade opportunities, tourism, and overall economic growth.
Sangma reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding infrastructure throughout Meghalaya, ensuring comprehensive development across the state. He also emphasized the tourism potential in East Jaintia Hills, mentioning that enhanced access to attractions like Chympe Waterfalls would attract more tourists and create livelihood opportunities for locals.
Officials anticipate that these projects will significantly reduce travel time, enhance transportation efficiency, and support socio-economic progress in the district. The Meghalaya government has been prioritizing infrastructure development, particularly in roads, bridges, and connectivity projects, to enhance accessibility in rural and border areas.
