Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma highlighted the transformation of the state’s DREAM Mission into a community-driven movement against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. The initiative, a key government program, aims to combat drug abuse, enhance rehabilitation, raise awareness, and foster collaboration among various stakeholders. Speaking at an event marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Shillong, Sangma emphasized the mission’s focus on compassion, empathy, and coordinated efforts to tackle drug-related challenges.
Sangma underscored the need for concrete actions alongside awareness initiatives to address substance abuse effectively. He emphasized the importance of public involvement in supporting prevention, rehabilitation, and awareness programs for sustained impact. The Chief Minister emphasized the significance of collective efforts in combating drug abuse, urging active participation from all sections of society for the mission’s success.
During the event, Sangma administered an anti-drug pledge and inaugurated a center at Reid Provincial Chest Hospital to provide medical treatment, counseling, and rehabilitation services for individuals struggling with addiction. Financial aid was disbursed to organizations dedicated to drug de-addiction and rehabilitation, while recognition was given to individuals excelling in recovery and community outreach. The launch of the Recovery Track Portal and the signing of a partnership agreement between the Social Welfare Department, DREAM, and SEWA Inland, Tura, were notable highlights of the event.
