Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma shared a detailed plan with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to enhance the state’s Performance Grading Index. Sangma acknowledged Meghalaya’s consistent low ranking over the past three years and highlighted the need for significant improvements.
Sangma addressed the issue of fragmented resource utilization due to an excessive number of schools in Meghalaya, leading to administrative complexities. He emphasized the state’s focus on enhancing education quality and learning outcomes through various interventions, including school consolidation and infrastructure optimization.
The Chief Minister informed Pradhan about efforts to streamline grant-in-aid systems to reduce administrative burdens and enhance academic outcomes. He also mentioned the implementation of a unified pay structure for teachers to ensure parity and accountability.
Sangma stressed the importance of teacher training programs and highlighted initiatives such as the three-language formula, play-based learning, and removal of summative assessments till Class 2. He mentioned the merger of lower primary schools for resource optimization and introduced the “CM LEAD Fellowship” to strengthen education reforms across districts.
The establishment of the Meghalaya Teachers Training Academy was announced to enhance teacher education and continuous professional development. Sangma expressed optimism about overcoming challenges and improving Meghalaya’s Performance Grading Index with a clear roadmap and strong political will.
