Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma recently assessed the reform efforts in the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) and Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC). The focus is on enhancing the functioning of the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) through institutional and administrative changes.
During a review meeting, Sangma highlighted the state government’s call for closer collaboration with both councils to modernize their systems. The aim is to implement crucial reforms that will enhance governance and public service delivery. Both the JHADC and GHADC have already started the reform process, which includes strengthening service rules, improving financial management, and digitizing administrative processes.
Sangma emphasized that these reforms are geared towards boosting efficiency, transparency, and accountability within the ADCs. The agenda also aims to make governance more citizen-centric by simplifying administrative procedures and enhancing access to public services. Through technology adoption and improved governance practices, the councils are expected to operate more effectively, providing greater convenience to residents in tribal areas under their jurisdiction.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the Autonomous District Councils in implementing these reform measures and enhancing their institutional capabilities. He expressed optimism that these ongoing reforms will significantly enhance the councils’ overall performance and improve service delivery to the people of Meghalaya.
