Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma emphasized the importance of investing in the state’s youth, considering it as the cornerstone for future progress. Speaking at the inauguration of the 41 Meghalaya Battalion NCC complex in Tura, Sangma praised the youth of Meghalaya, stating they are unparalleled not just nationally but globally. He highlighted the pivotal role of the National Cadet Corps in nurturing disciplined and responsible citizens.
Describing the event as significant, the Chief Minister expressed his delight at the establishment of the battalion in Tura, aligning with the government’s vision for youth empowerment. Sangma emphasized that the success of a government should be gauged by the positive impact on lives rather than monetary investments or infrastructure development.
With a demographic where 75% of the population is under 35 and nearly half under 20, Sangma underscored youth development as a key governmental priority. He outlined the Youth and Sports Policy aimed at empowering young individuals through various avenues like education, sports, entrepreneurship, arts, culture, and skill enhancement. The inauguration of the 41 Meghalaya Battalion NCC complex is a step towards realizing this vision for the state’s youth.
Recalling his admiration for the armed forces during his youth, Sangma praised the values instilled by the NCC, including discipline, patriotism, hard work, and responsibility. He pledged ongoing government support for bolstering NCC infrastructure and youth-centric programs statewide.
Officials shared that the 41 Meghalaya Battalion NCC, originating from the 15 Assam Artillery Battery NCC in 1961, was upgraded in October 2020. Currently overseeing activities in five Garo Hills districts, the battalion has expanded to seven colleges and 18 schools, with approximately 2,400 cadets enrolled as of May 2026.
