Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma initiated urban infrastructure projects worth over Rs 150 crore in Tura to modernize the town ahead of the 39th National Games in 2027. The projects involve revamping the Najing Bazar area, constructing a multi-level car parking and cinema complex at Dakopgre, and renovating the SMELC building with additional cultural and youth facilities.
In his address, Chief Minister Sangma emphasized the government’s commitment to citizen-centric governance through initiatives like CM Connect and digital service delivery systems. He highlighted the importance of direct citizen-government interaction and announced plans to establish CM Connect Offices in all 56 blocks of the state for decentralized citizen services.
The urban transformation plans for Tura include the Najing Bazar Redevelopment Project, featuring a commercial complex, parking facilities, hotel accommodation, shops, and vendor infrastructure. Additionally, the Dakopgre multi-level parking and cinema complex, costing Rs 51.21 crore, will offer parking for 200 vehicles, cinema halls, gaming zones, and food courts to boost local economic activity.
Chief Minister Sangma stressed the government’s focus on urban cleanliness and safety through initiatives like LED smart streetlights, CCTV camera installations, and urban grading systems. These efforts are aligned with the preparations for the National Games 2027 and aim to enhance tourism, mobility, and civic amenities while preserving the Garo cultural identity.
During the event, Chief Minister Sangma disbursed cheques under the Chief Minister Artists Engagement Scheme and launched the Tura Municipal Board mobile application to enhance civic service delivery.
