The Mehsana District Panchayat has initiated Gujarat’s first ‘District Panchayat at Your Doorstep’ program to address public grievances locally and reduce the need for rural residents to travel to the district headquarters. Launched from the Shaktipeeth at Bahucharaji, the program aims to bring district-level administration directly to villages, allowing residents to raise civic and public welfare issues with senior officials.
Under the guidance of Mehsana District Panchayat President Nitin Patel, the inaugural public hearing took place at Annapurna Bhavan in Bahucharaji. Residents from Bahucharaji and nearby villages highlighted concerns such as road conditions, water supply, availability of village revenue officials, and construction of new gram panchayat buildings. Patel listened to the grievances and directed officials to ensure timely resolution without causing inconvenience to citizens.
The program addressed various infrastructure issues, including the completion of a road segment on the Shankhalpur-Kalari bypass, reconstruction of damaged roads, and progress on pending road projects. Residents also advocated for the appointment of a permanent Talati, borewell construction, and restoration of suspended bus services. Patel emphasized the program’s goal of enhancing government service accessibility in remote areas and resolving local issues effectively at the grassroots level.
Patel highlighted the program’s transparency and effectiveness in ensuring government services reach all individuals seamlessly. He emphasized the maintenance of a comprehensive register by Chitnishs in each taluka to record and follow up on all representations. Monthly reviews by the district administration and escalation of state government matters to higher authorities were outlined to expedite issue resolution.
In addition to addressing public grievances, beneficiaries received certificates for various government welfare schemes during the event. Notable attendees included MLA Sukhaji Thakor, former minister Rajni Patel, District Development Officer Anchu Wilson, and local leaders Kamlesh Desai and Devang Pandya, along with officials from district and taluka panchayats.
