Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum revealed that the United States has assured to uphold Mexican law following the unauthorized presence of CIA agents in the country. The incident, where two CIA agents lost their lives during an anti-drug operation in Chihuahua, prompted a diplomatic inquiry from Mexico.
Sheinbaum stated that the US response included a commitment to adhere to Mexico’s legal framework. The involvement of US intelligence agents in dismantling a drug lab without federal authorization has strained diplomatic relations between the two nations, leading to an investigation by Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office.
Sheinbaum expressed hope that the CIA’s involvement was an isolated incident and not a precedent for future security cooperation. Emphasizing the importance of respecting Mexico’s sovereignty, she underscored the need for adherence to established security protocols and authorization procedures for any US government agents operating in Mexico.
